WORLD CROWNS      Mexico - Cap and Rays 8 Reales
  Standardization of the dies.

The first 43 years of the Cap and Ray series saw large variations in the dies from mint to mint and year to year.
In 1867, the Mexico City mint produced the first of the "standardized" dies.
By
1887 the "standardization of  the dies" was extended to the remaining active mints:

1868: Ca;     1881 Ho, Oa;    1887:  Cn, Do, Ga,  Go, Pi,  Zs.

Among other features, the dragon teeth appeared with the standardized dies.

D&P  do not state if there may have been  a second competing standard - see  Cn 1883-1886; Do 1882-1886;  Ga 1874-1886; Go 1873-1886; Ho 1881-1882; Oa 1877-1881; Pi 1873-1887; Zs 1882-1886.
Personally,  I find these pieces more appealing than their Mexico City mint counterparts.

"Post - Standardization" -
The story of the Mexico 8 Reales ends with a post-script. The basic style was continued with a minor change into the 20th century with the Cap & Ray Pesos, minted from 1898 to 1909.  Most dates and mints  are collectible.
I think this series is unjustly neglected, as it seems part of the Resplandores series.

   A document of this era.

This die was prepared at the Mexico City Mint for service at the Alamos mint.
It was repunched and used at the Guanajuato mint.

(Presumably this die did not see service in the Alamos mint.)

1887 "Z" Mint
In 1887,  the "Zs" mint mark was punched as a "Z"  for a small part if the issue.

This error may have occurred because a Mexco City Mint die maker, unfamiliar with the "Zs" standard, punched a "Z" instead.
